Hot Hubby and I love anything live – plays, musicals, ballets, symphony… and of course you all know we {heart} stand up comedy. There is just something magical about planning for a show, having tickets in hand (sometimes weeks in advance), and getting all gussied up for a live performance. We hope to pass this love on to our kiddos.
Two weeks ago we won tickets to Gala of the Stars from Debbie in the OC over at the Barclay Theater. Time to see if our kiddos will love the theater as well!
I donned my pearls and decked the boys out in their ties (the family coordinating in black/white… you know me!) and we started the evening with a swanky dinner…
I packed bribery treats snacks, stickers and a few quiet toys, just in case, and on the way we talked theater etiquette… which kinda made me wonder why going is so fun!
“It will be dark. No talking. Stay in your seat. People are going to dance around on stage. Clap for them.”
Aside from Cora yelling, “What’s Next??” after each dance it was awesome! Much to the dismay to the couple in front of us, Cy was doing a lil’ baby gabbering now and then, but all things considered I’m so happy we went. We did leave at intermission because it was already way past bedtime and I wasn’t going to press my luck. I want the children to want to come back!
By far the best performance was from Daniil Simkin, of the American Ballet Theatre. He did a hysterical piece (Moorhuhn) as a chicken that lays an egg at the end. There was also a gun shot in the music which Eli thought was awesome.
Anyway, take your kiddos to the theater!
Because it’s rad.
(I’m thinking the Family Series at the Segerstom Center is in our near future.)

You guys are awesome for going to the theater. I wanted to go to the circus and hubby wasn’t game… said it’d be better when they’re older. Hmphf. (And I think I won???… so excited! Of course I’ll think of you every time I wear them!)

We did the circus last year and the kiddos were totally into it! I think yours would be fine. Does it come out there every summer like it does here?
You should get the earring soon! Let me know if the backs are ok. I had to think of a good way to pack them and I hope it was successful!

Thanks Meghan!
I could have kicked myself though because Brad suggested taking Cy’s binky out and I thought ‘there is no way it will be a good shot’ and said no. Lame!!

Sounds like you had oodles of fun! Shame on you for putting up a picture from In and Out! I haven’t had it in a while since I’ve been living in TN!!! 🙂 Glad you are doing what you can to pass on your love of the arts!

I would miss INO if we ever moved. But I know for a fact we will never be far from them (my hubby works for their corporate office) They are in TX now so if you REALLY get the urge it isn’t as far to drive… he he he!

I highly recommend the Fullerton Children’s Rep Theater. They have a summer and winter performances. This summer is “The Music Man.” The actors (grades 5-8) are amazing and my children love it. http://fcrtcompany.com/

AWESOME!! I was looking for just that sort of thing!! Do you know of any other oc places? I looked at the Barclay calendar but it was mostly dance shows and I know my kiddos would be more into a play or musical.

Woohoo! I think it’s so fun that you went as a family. Sadly my hubs doesn’t think all things theater are as awesome as I do.

What a lame-o! Maybe he needs the promise of an after party… wink! (totally tasteful joke because you’re married)
